Rollers bliksemed at Squirrels

The Rollers suffered their third defeat of the season on Sunday – and it was a biggie … a 72-run drubbing by Squirrels at Alma Marist in Rondebosch.

Electing to bat first, the hosts made their intentions clear from the start as Mielies and Sir set about making the most of the strong wind, with the latter particularly harsh on the bowling as he dispatched two balls over the wall.

Cornell Keulder (1/23) got Mielies trapped LBW, before Jakes Oberholzer (1/35) had Shimmy caught at cover and captain Chris Winterbach was run-out as the Rollers staged a comeback.

Jacques Laubscher continued his fine form with the ball as he picked up 3/33 in his seven overs, before Hannes Moore (2/36) finally ended Sir’s onslaught on 74 with a spectacular caught and bowled effort.

However, some lusty blows towards the end from Dink meant the Rollers would be chasing a challenging 185 for victory.

After five overs, that target looked highly unlikely as the Rollers slumped to 3/3, with Hannes Carlson (0), Michael van Dewenter (3) and George Kamfer (0) back in the hut.

The brothers Cooper then set about resurrecting the innings, putting on 80 for the fourth wicket before the impressive Bradsky caught Ryan behind for 47.

Neville continued to make a fight of it, but when he skied one to mid-wicket with his score on 49 the writing was on the wall as the Rollers were dismissed for 112.
