The Rollers returned to winning ways in emphatic style on Sunday, thumping Edgemead by seven wickets – with 11 overs to spare.
Having been flayed all over the Distell Oval last weekend, the bowlers were keen to improve the RPOs and maybe pick up some wickets along the way.
And that came courtesy of Claude Louw (7-0-29-2) – bowling into a fierce South-Easter – in the eighth over of the day, when his double blow put the hosts on the back-foot.
From there it was a steady procession of wickets as Cornell Keulder (5-0-7-1) and Jakes Oberholzer (6-0-27-2) got in on the act, while two run-outs in two overs didn’t help.
Andrew Young (4.2-1-8-2) wrapped up the tail as Edgemead were dismissed for 96 in less than 27 overs.
The Rollers were once bowled out for 75 on the exact same pitch, but any hopes the hosts had of a repeat performance soon went out the window as Ryan Cooper and George Kamfer showed some resolve on a difficult pitch.
Their 83-run partnership was ended when Ryan (53) was caught on the long-off fence and, despite Claude (1) and Francois Geldenhuys (1) falling in quick succession, the remaining runs were soon knocked off, with George carrying his bat with a well played 29.
The early finish meant some time in the bar watching the rugby and cricket, and a special thanks goes out to whoever decided on a double Gin and Tonic only costing R25 – and that gentleman who made the samoosas!
