Cornell Keulder scooped the West Coast Rollers’ Player of the Year award at Friday’s end-of-season function.
Hosted by Jacques Laubscher at ‘Scooter’s Pizza Palace’, Cornell walked away with the top award in a season during which he picked up 14 wickets at a measly average of 11.1, and scored 206 runs at an average of 41.
Ryan Cooper was named Best Batman after scoring 339 runs at an average of 56.6, which included two centuries.
Andrew Young, in his first full season with the Rollers, was named Best Bowler. He picked up 10 wickets at 18.5 apiece, including a memorable 5/15 spell in the final match against Western Province Cricket Club.
Hannes Carlson was named Fielder of the Season for his eight dismissals.
Some of the less prestigious awards included the Claude Louw Medic award, which went to Neville Cooper for a season in which he not only pulled a quad muscle in the second ball of the match, but also broke his toe trying to kick a mouse.
Nicky Rheeder was named Chairman of the Duckfarm for his two ducks, while Jacques Laubscher got the Bucketlist award for dropping three catches and taking none.
On a more positive note, Scooter also won the award for the Most Dedicated Roller for obvious reasons.
So thanks to everyone involved for a truly memorable season which yielded just two defeats and which delivered several never-to-be-forgotten moments.
