Three trophies for 'Juice' at Rollers awards

Jarryd van Wyk was the big winner at the West Coast Rollers’ awards evening, bagging the Player of the Season award to go with his Batsman of the Season trophy.

‘Juice’ was the standout player in 2022/23, scoring 257 runs at an average of 64.25 (SR: 131, with his highest score of 122* against the Craig Matthews Band also winning him the Performance of the Season.

Tom Stapylton-Smith was named Bowler of the Season, having bagged 15 wickets at an average of 17 (RPO: 5). His best bowling came against the Pumas, 7-1-22-5, one of two five-wicket hauls in the campaign.

Peter Muller, these days a digital nomad, dialed in from Brazil and was duly voted the Players’ Player of the Season in something of a landslide decision.

Charl Bester was named Best Fielder while, conversely, Tom got the Bucket Award after dropping four catches during the season (and taking none).

Newcomer of the Season went to JP de Bruin, who marked his debut with 4/6 against Pumas as he finished the campaign with nine wickets at an average of just 8.56.

Cornell Keulder, who missed the entire season after a wrist operation, defended his Claude Louw Medic Award, while captain Michael van Dewenter is the new Duckfarm Chairman.
